What a veneer is
A veneer is a thin shell of dental porcelain bonded to the front surface of a tooth. Because porcelain reflects light much like natural enamel and resists staining far better than composite, veneers hold their appearance for many years.
Concerns veneers address
Veneers are versatile, but they are not the answer to every problem.
- Deep discoloration that does not respond to whitening
- Chipped, worn or uneven edges
- Small gaps between front teeth
- Teeth that appear too short or narrow

The process, visit by visit
Consultation and records come first, followed by design and a trial smile you can see and approve. Conservative preparation and impressions are next, with temporaries while the laboratory works. At the final visit we try in, refine and bond.
Longevity
Veneers last longest for patients who protect them. A nightguard for grinding, avoiding using front teeth as tools, and routine hygiene visits make the difference between years and decades.
Frequently asked questions
Do veneers ruin your natural teeth?
Preparation removes a small amount of enamel, which is why veneers are considered a long-term commitment. We prepare as conservatively as the case allows and discuss alternatives such as bonding first.
How many veneers will I need?
That depends on how many teeth show when you smile. Some patients need two; a full smile design often involves eight to ten.
Can veneers be whitened later?
No — porcelain does not respond to bleaching. That is why whitening is completed before the final shade is selected.
